2008 Hopes & Dreams Racquetball Tournament
Formerly known as the “Slay the Dragon” Tournament This tournament is to help raise money for Cancer Research in HOPE of finding a cure and to help fulfill DREAMS for those where research is too late.
HOPE
Why money is needed for research:
• Cancer is Alaska’s number one killer
• 1 in 2 men will develop cancer during their lifetime
• 1 in 3 women will develop cancer during their lifetime
• 3 in 4 families will care for a family member with cancer
DREAMS
• The Dream Lives On grants dreams to Alaskan adults who have been diagnosed with a year or less to live.
• Making dreams come true helps these remarkable individuals in our community by offering a respite, a time for happiness, an opportunity to create lasting memories for those left behind.
• A dream cannot provide a cure for our recipients but it can dramatically impact the quality of their lives with the joy experienced in a dream come true.
It’s never too late to help a dream come true…

Tournament Recap
Brandon Cuaresma & Robert Bailey shake hands after The Men’s Open Final
Brandon Cuaresma (4) served notice to the other Open players that he intends to be someone they will not be able to overlook this season, After fighting through an 11-9 tiebreaker win over Nick Hand one of the tough young guns in the first round, Brandon then had to go through the past 2 Alaska State Champions (2007 Matt Howell & 2008 Jesse Keaveny) and then take on last years runner-up Robert Bailey in the final. All these matches went to tiebreakers 11-6, 11-2, 11-4 with Brandon taking his first win since the 2007 Slaying the Dragon tournament in August 2007. To complete his Weekend Brandon also took 1st place in the Men’s Open Doubles with partner Jesse Keaveny as they defeated Robbie Gunther & Steven Stewart in yet another tiebreaker 11-6.
